TAACC’s Sexual Assault Nurse Examination Program & Advocacy is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to coordinate comprehensive medical forensic examinations and provide emotional support to adults (18+) who have experienced sexual assault.
Specially trained nurses and advocates meet the immediate physical and emotional needs of sexual assault survivors and provide crisis intervention.
Advocates are available to speak with survivors confidentially, offering support throughout the process and providing survivors with information on sexual assault, domestic violence and healing.
The Medical Forensic Exam is separate from Law Enforcement, a survivor can contact a nurse and/or advocate and not engage with law enforcement so long as certain criteria are not met.
We service Tuscola, Huron and Sanilac counties at confidential sites including our Caro SANE room and various Thumb area emergency rooms.
Evidence collection is most effective within 120 hours (5 days) of an assault.
Survivors have autonomy and choice throughout the entire process- survivors may choose to complete only parts of the exam or to stop at any time.
